Things to Do in Luxor

Karnak Temple Complex
Explore one of the largest religious structures ever built. Karnak is a massive collection of temples, chapels, pylons, and obelisks dedicated primarily to the god Amun-Ra. Don’t miss the Hypostyle Hall with its towering columns.

Valley of the Kings
On the west bank lies the famous Valley of the Kings – the burial ground of pharaohs like Tutankhamun, Ramses II, and Seti I. Tourists can enter several tombs, each with stunning wall paintings and hieroglyphs that have survived thousands of years.

Temple of Hatshepsut
Dedicated to Egypt’s first female pharaoh, this terraced temple is a marvel of ancient architecture, built into the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari.

Colossi of Memnon
These two massive statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III stand as guardians to the remains of his mortuary temple and are a popular photo stop.

Abu Simbel Temples

In the 1960s, the Abu Simbel temples faced submersion due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Through an unprecedented international rescue operation, both temples were carefully dismantled and relocated 65 meters higher and 200 meters back from their original location, preserving these irreplaceable monuments of ancient Egyptian civilization for future generations.
